Men's & Women's 2017 XC Season Preview
Although last season the Cross Country team was largely composed of Freshman, both the Men's and Women's teams placed 2nd in the Big 8 Conference.
The Women's team this season will be mostly freshman, but a highly motivated young group. Last season the Women's team worked hard in trainings and meets to motivate one another in order to achieve their season goal of qualifying for state. This season the women's team hopes to use this same format for success to build as a team and achieve individual success with a much smaller team. "The team dynamic is different this season as there are only three of us - reguardless my goal for this young team is to qualify for the state championship meet in November. I believe this is possible if we stay motivated and work hard together." - Women's team captain Jessica Mendez.
The Men's program looks to continue to build on their strong past two seasons. The Men have five returning runners, a strong class of freshman and lost only one runner from a season ago. The men's roster has doubled in size from a year ago adding strength and depth to an already powerful squad. The men aspire to be in the top 3 in Norcal, top 10 in state, and conference champs. "In this Cross Country team we are more than just teammates; we are a family. Everyday we endure hours of pain for a purpose. Although we all have different individual goals, as a team we strive for much more than just to win conference and qualify for state. We strive to support each other in every way possible and to leave a mark that will impact DVC's cross country for years to come." -Men's Co-Captain Kevin Orellana.
"Everyone has been working hard since June, and this is the best Men's team I have coached since being here at DVC. I have high expectations for this season and can't wait to see how this season transpires." Head Coach Shelly Pierson.
DVC Men's & Women's Cross Country beings their season Friday September 1st at the Sierra Invitational in Rocklin, Ca. #Roll Vikes!
