4th quarter surge leads to Vikings’ win!
Before the game it was announced that three Viking starters were unavailable. Given this year's depth for the Vikings, it was next men up! After one quarter, the Vikings and Chico State Wildcats were tied at 3-3. Early in the second quarter, another starter, Tyler Cox for the Vikings went down to a possible thumb fracture, and soon after yet another starter, Devon Shah went down due to a blunt trauma wound to his shin. Once again the Vikiings were in "the next men up" mode, and the teams at half time continued to be tied 8-8. The Vikings rode the shoulder of Paul Newpower in the first half who scored four of the eight goals for the Vikings. At the end of the third quarter the Dickson twins, Ryan and Zach, along with Newpower helped build the lead to 13-11. The Wildcats though were not finished, and quickly closed the gap to 13-12 with 10:23 left in the third quarter. The Viking defense stiffened shutting out the Wildcats the rest of the third and fourth quarters as the Dickson's and Newpower scored the final four goals to secure the victory 17-12. Another huge factor in the game was the faceoff prowess of Lawrence Johnson who gave the Vikings possession after possession and allowed the offense many opportunities to score.
