
Football loses to Shasta, 22-15
On October 5, 2024, Diablo Valley College's football team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 22-15 defeat to Shasta College in Redding, CA. Despite a strong start and a late rally, the Vikings couldn't overcome a powerful offensive display from Shasta.
Diablo Valley took the lead in the first quarter when Ferrari Miller broke through the defense for a 17-yard touchdown run, capping off a quick 4-play, 84-yard drive. Jorge Deseusa added the extra point, putting the Vikings up 7-3. However, Shasta responded with a 65-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter, shifting momentum their way.
In the second half, the Vikings struggled to get their offense going, being held scoreless in the third quarter while Shasta extended their lead with another long touchdown pass and a 9-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the score to 22-7 early in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings mounted a late comeback when Teddy Booras connected with Yannik Berg for a 25-yard touchdown pass. A successful two-point conversion from David Pierro brought Diablo Valley within striking distance at 22-15, but they were unable to close the gap further.
Teddy Booras threw for 238 yards on 20-of-31 passing, with one touchdown, while Ferrari Miller led the rushing attack with 61 yards on 10 carries. Jake Calcagno and David Pierro were key contributors in the receiving game, combining for 151 yards on 10 catches.
Defensively, the Vikings were led by Wesley Garton, Jeffery Holden, and Marley Alapati, each recording 8 total tackles. Diablo Valley's defense applied pressure throughout the game, totaling 4 sacks, but it wasn't enough to stop Shasta's efficient passing attack, which tallied 346 yards.
With the loss, Diablo Valley moves to 3-1 on the season. They will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their Big 8 Conference campaign.
