Jimmy Collins named Next Head Football Coach for the Vikings
Diablo Valley College Dean & Director of Athletics, Christine Worsley, announced today Jimmy Collins as the new Head Football Coach for the Vikings.
"We're excited to announce the addition of Jimmy Collins and his family to the Diablo Valley College community," said Worsley. "Jimmy's proven coaching skills, including his ability to build relationships, recruit talent, compete, and win, truly set him apart. His unwavering commitment to the success of his players, both on the field and in their academic pursuits, exemplifies his dedication to excellence."
“I am excited for the opportunity to be a member of the DVC community and help contribute to the overall success of our students,” Collins said. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Jimmy Collins is entering his tenth season as a college head coach, after serving nine as the head coach at City College of San Francisco and six years previously as an assistant coach there as well. The 2015 and 2021 CCCAA All-American Coach of the Year has led the Rams to the post season in each of his previous seven seasons, including nine postseason victories, two Northern California Championships, two State Championships, and two National Championships. During this time, 213 of his players transferred to four-year colleges. Of those transfers, 129 continued their careers with Division 1 programs, and a total of 157 players earned scholarships.
Collins began his career coaching the quarterbacks at City College of San Francisco, a role he will maintain on the sidelines for the Vikings this fall. In his 14 seasons working with the quarterbacks, Collins has provided 16 Division 1 opportunities for quarterbacks and a total of 22 continue to play at the four-year level.
After playing quarterback for CCSF in 2005 and winning a Northern California Championship, Collins transferred to Portland State University, where he played quarterback for head coach Jerry Glanville and offensive coordinator Mouse Davis, the inventor of the run-and-shoot. At Portland State, he earned 2008 Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. In 2011, Collins graduated with a Masters of Sports Science with an emphasis in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama.
A Bay Area native, Collins currently resides in San Francisco with his wife and two sons and we look forward to welcoming him to the East Bay shortly.
