MBB | Nuno's 13 lead the Vikes past American River
Rico Nuno 13 points Jaques Carraway 10 points Eric Ellis 8 points
PLEASANT HILL -- After beginning the 2nd half with a 26-23 lead, the Vikings offense began to sputter as American River was able to clamp down on defense with a 13-2 run to go up 41-33 with 10:26 remaining. A full timeout was taken by head coach Steve Coccimiglio to regather composure. The Vikings returned the favor with a run of their own, eventually closing out the game with crucial free throws after American River's Keishaun Sinclair committed a technical foul with 1:48 remaining. This gave DVC the edge in closing out the game by a final scoure of 58-52.
Rico Nuno led the way with 13 points. Jaques Carraway added 10 points. Eric Ellis finished the game with 8 points.
Although Cosumnes River holds a healthy lead in the Big 8 Conference, DVC's win over American River moved the Vikings to 6-4 in-conference, helping break up what was once a five-team tie for second place in conference play. The Vikings are now tied for 2nd place in the Big 8 with Sierra and San Joaquin Delta.
Diablo Valley hits the road this Tuesday night for a matchup with San Joaquin Delta in Stockton for a 7:30 PM tipoff, which will help further break up the cluttered mass that sits behind Cosumnes River in the Big 8 Conference.
