Women's Water Polo - The Lady Vikes placed 4th in the Northern California regional tournament held over the weekend at American River College in Sacramento. In Friday's quarterfinal matchup, DVC put on a dominant performance, emerging victorious over Merced College. In Saturday morning's semi-final against #1 West Valley, DVC battled hard from start to finish, but fell to the eventual NorCal champs, 16-5. The Third Place game was a close match with Big 8 Conference rival Delta, with the Lady Vikes being edged out by the Mustangs 11-8.
Men's Water Polo - Men's Water Polo defeated Merced College in the NorCal Regional semi-final, 14-12, to secure the Vikings' passage to next weekend's CCCAA State Championship in Huntington Beach. Tommy Baier (So./Orinda/Miramonte HS) paced the Vikes with 4 goals, Donovan Chan (Fr./Alameda/Alameda HS) added 3 tallies, and Berch Parker (So./Lafayette/Acalanes HS) and Josh Stridiron (So./Brentwood/Deer Valley HS) each added a pair of goals in the win.
In the NorCal Championship, DVC met up with Sierra College in a rematch of last week's Big 8 Conference Final, which saw the Vikings tame the Wolverines in a 3-goal victory. DVC fell to Sierra for the first time this season, 15-13, despite hat tricks from Captains Parker and Matt Peterson (So./Orinda/Campolindo HS). This was the Vikings first trip Conference Championship and trip to NorCals after winning the Big 8 and placing first or second at NorCals each season from 2008-2015.
The Vikings take on #1 South seed and tournament host Golden West College on Friday, November 22nd at 10:30am in Huntington Beach. CCCAA State Championship brackets can be found at https://www.cccaasports.org/sports/mwaterpolo/Championships
