Men's Water Polo finish 2nd in the Big 8 Conference Tournament

Diavlo Valley College's Men's Water Polo team competed in the Big 8 Conference Championship Tournament in Stockton, where they took 2nd place overall. In round one, the Vikings defeated Santa Rosa Junior College. The Vikings were led by Brock Garcia who had 6 goals, Aidan Pitt added 3 goals, Gordon Kerns and Joey Isola each had 2 goals and Logan Blair and Morgan Osborne each recorded a goal. The Vikings were ahead, 10-1 at half time and kept the momentum going in the 2nd half with a final score of 15-3.
The Vikings then took on the host team, San Joaquin Delta College in a very familiar semi-final match up. This was the 5th meeting of the season for the two teams with the Mustangs defeating the Vikings all 4 previous games. DVC took an early 3-1 lead in the first but Delta had a strong second quarter, out scoring the Vikings 4-2 to make to tie it up heading into half time. In the second half, the Vikings scored two goals to make the score 7-5 before Delta made it 7-6 heading into the fourth quarter. The Vikings kept fighting, scoring the first 2 goals in the 4th quarter to put the Vikes up 9-6. Delta fought back and scored 2 more but the Vikings were able to hold them off for the 9-8 final score.
In the championship game, the Vikings took on Sierra College. The Vikings took the lead early in the game, leading the Wolverines 4-3 at the end of the first. The Wolverines led at half-time, 8-5 and kept rolling in the second half. The Vikings offense could not keep up with the Wolverines and the final score was 19-7. DVC was led by Max Murphy with 3 goals and Aidan Pitt added 2 more goals. The Vikings ended their 2017 season 2nd in the Big 8 Conference Tournament with a record of 11-14.
