Vikings return to winning ways
The Vikings took to the pregame warmups in pouring rain, but they knew on this night, they had the opportunity to end the winning drought and they knew well that rain would not deter them from victory. As it turned out, by faceoff, the rain had stopped and the skies had cleared, and like the Vikings of old, they knew that this was an omen of conquest on this night. The defense came out strong and fierce, throwing their bodies around and setting the tone early with the Saint Mary's College, clearly sending a forceful and early message to the Gaels that this would not be their night. The faceoff unit won 90% of the faceoffs led by Christian Gee. The offense resorted to their early season form, led by a four-goal effort from the big lefty, August Gade. The game on this night was a total team effort led head coach, Drew Welch and assistant Andrew Ertola, as the Vikings defeated the Gaels 21-10.
Being a young team this season, while the Vikings had their ups and downs, they learned a great deal by playing toe to toe with historical powerhouses UC Berkeley and Sonoma State University both of which have won MCLA Division 1 national championships in the past and look destined to once again land as top ten national lacrosse teams.
The Vikings look forward to their final contest of the year on Saturday, December 2nd at high noon vs. the Lumberjacks of Cal Poly, Humboldt.
