Vikings prevail in epic warrior battle
It was the Spartans of San Jose State University; it was the Vikings of Diablo Valley College. It was an epic battle between two fierce warriors! In their first game of the season, the Vikings hosted San Jose State at Viking Field. The Spartans drew first blood with a goal early in the first quarter but the Vikings immediately countered after winning the faceoff. Within 90 seconds, the game was knotted at one apiece. At the end of the first quarter the Vikings led 6-5, foretelling a high scoring battle. The Vikings extended their lead at half time 12-9. Both offenses were "cooking" the whole night and at the start of the third quarter there was the feeling that no lead was safe given the teams' propensity for scoring. At the end of third quarter the Vikings led 15-11, as both defenses kicked into gear. A few minutes into the fourth quarter the Vikings extended their lead and never looked back, ultimately winning the battle of the warriors 24-16.
Next up for the Vikings: the Vikings take on a very strong opponent, Dominican University in San Rafael on Saturday, October 14th at 3:30. Dominican is a NCAA Division II program and will test the Vikings both offensively and defensively. It will be a great test for the young Vikings!
