Leader of 'Faculty Five' and 4-time triple jump national champion Gay Bryan dead at 87

We are sad to report the passing of retired Physical Education instructor, Gaylord Bryan on April 25, 2015. Gay coached four sports and taught from 1952-1989. He led DVC (then named East Contra Costa Junior College) to the school's first ever men's basketball conference title in 1954. Additionally, Gay coached track & field, cross country, and softball. He was himself, a tremendous athlete who was a four-time National Champion in the triple jump and won a Gold Medal in the 1951 Pan American Games in Argentina. He was known as part of the Elite PAC 12 Football Officials and was a NFL Replay Official. Gay was inducted into DVC's Hall of Fame class of 2013. He was also inducted into Stanford University's Hall of Fame. He lived Lincoln, California with his wife Nancy (also a retired DVC PE faculty member). He has requested no services and will be cremated.
