
Fall Sports Recap
The Women's Cross-Country ended their season by competing in the CCCAA State Championship race in Fresno on November 17th. Julia Gonzalez finished in 8th place with a time of 18:37. She was named to the All-American team, and she was also the NorCal Champion two weeks prior. Gaby Orellana finished in 25th place with a time of 19:19 and was named to the All-State Team.
The Men’s Cross Country ended their season by competing in the CCCAA State Championship race in Fresno on November 17th as well. DVC’s Men finished in 20th place overall at State, 7th in the Norcal Race and 3rd in the Big 8 Conference race. In the NorCal race, Vikings had 6 runners finish in the top 50 and were edged out of 6th place by Modesto by 1 point.
The Men’s Water Polo team entered the Big 8 Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed and they finished in 4th place. The Vikings lost to Sierra 17-10 in the Semi-Finals lost to Delta in the 3rd place game 9-5. The Vikings finished the season with a record of 13-11 overall and 4-3 in conference.
The Women’s Water Polo team entered the Big 8 Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed and finished with a 14-1 loss to Sierra and a 14-3 loss to American River. The Women advanced to the NorCal Championship meet where they lost to West Valley 13-5. The Vikings finished their season with a record of 10-14 overall and 5-4 in conference.
Football finished the season with a record of 2-7. The Vikings had 6 players make the All Bay 6 Conference team; OL- Rob Vanderlaan, RB- Ray Jackson, WR- Roman Sahagun, DB- Ryan Payne, DB- Josh Ramirez, and LB- Tuineau Pulu.
Women’s Volleyball finished the season in 9th place in the Big 8 Conference with a record of 3-21 overall and 1-15 in conference. Mania Korzeniecka finished the year averaging .57 aces per set, 2nd best in the Big 8 and Tita Twitchen averaged 6.09 assists per set which was the 5th best in the conference.
Women’s Soccer finished their season in 5th place in the Big 8 Conference (7-8-1 in Conference and 12-9-1 overall). The Vikings took on LMC in the “Play-In” round of the CCCAA playoffs and defeated the Mustangs by a score of 1-0. The Vikings advanced to the next round where they lost to Folsom Lake College. Marjan Haydaree finished the year in the DVC record books, ranked No. 1 for goals scored in a single season with 28. She led the Big 8 Conference in goals scored and finished 5th in the state. Haydaree also just competed for the Afghan National Team in the CAFA 2018 Cup. Danielle Davis led the Big 8 Conference in saves with 116, 43 ahead of the next goalie.
