DVC Football Excited for 2017 Season
DVC's Head Football Coach Mike Darr sat down with DVC sport reporter, Alaina Limbrick to discuss his excitement leading up to the 2017 season. Last season the Vikings ended with an overall record 5-6 and conference 1-4.
Darr, who is in his 10th year as the Vikings head coach, explained his excitement about this week’s opponent, American River College. American River came out with the win last year against the Vikings, 23-20, after a very close game coming down to the last seconds. Coach Darr explained, “This past week has been at times tough watching the last 45 seconds of that game against American River”.
Darr, explained his plan to improve this year’s record by working on the teams’ depth. Going more in detail he explained, “We have more guys in more positions, if someone gets hurt this time around compared to last year, at the end of last season you could barley recognized the team who started in the beginning due to injuries”.
There will be a few returners this season, one being, RB Miles Harrison and fresh face for the team. When discussing the overall health of the team going into their September 2nd, game Darr explained, “Overall it has and looks good, in practice this week someone on the offensive line got rolled up on that is about it”. Coach Darr ended his interview with key points to making this season successful, “It boils down to limiting the minimal mistakes, watching the turn over’s and the ability to execute when the bullets are flying”.
