TWO MORE STATE TITLES FOR DVC
Brandon James repeated as champion in the men's 100-yard backstroke in the CCCAA Swim and Dive Championship on Friday at East Los Angeles College.
James finished in a time of 48.37 seconds, which was off his state record of 47.09. He prevailed by more than a second over Connor Paterson of Golden West (49.39).
The DVC men's 200 medley relay of James, Drew Pitcher, Jake Frigard and Garrett Middleton also repeated as state champion with a time of 1:31.30, beating runner-up Orange Coast (1:32.35) by more than a second. On Thursday, the Vikings' 200 freestyle relay of James, Frigard, Middleton and Pitcher won in a meet-record time of 1:21.52.
The DVC women finished sixth in Friday's 200 medley relay finals (1:53.48), with a team of Alyssa Jenkins, Christine Nip, Beverly Ayers and Malia Dillon.
In the 800 freestyle relay, the DVC men placed sixth with a team of Giovanni Hernandez, Jeremy Peris, Kirill Parshin and Logan Killion, and the DVC women were seventh with a team of Julia Mes, Melody Pope, Malia Dillon and Mirelle Augst.
Ayers was eighth in the women's 100 butterfly.
In one of the big storylines in Saturday's final day of the meet, James will try to repeat as 200 backstroke champion, after setting a national record last year.
