JAMES WINS STATE 200 BACK TITLE AGAIN
Brandon James made it a perfect 4 for 4 in individual backstroke events at the CCCAA Swim and Dive State Championship on Saturday at East Los Angeles College.
After winning the 100-yard backstroke title on Friday for the second straight year, James repeated as champion of the 200 back in a time of 1 minute, 45.90 seconds. His time was off his national record of 1:44.95 last year.
James still won comfortably over runner-up Connor Patterson of Golden West (1:47.49).
The Vikings finished third in the men's 400 freestyle relay finals to conclude the meet. The team of James, Garrett Middleton, Jake Frigard and Drew Pitcher was timed in 3:03.40, close behind runner-up Sierra (3:03.34). Riverside was the 400 relay champion (3:01.43).
The DVC women were 11th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.36) with a team of Julia Mes, Malia Dillon, Christine Nip and Beverly Ayers.
The Vikings men finished sixth in the team standings with 280 points. The DVC women were 11th with 133.5 points.
Pitcher was eighth in the men's 100 freestyle (46.43), and Giovanni Hernandez was eighth in the men's 200 butterfly (1:55.27). DVC's Logan Killion was eighth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:42.03).
