Baseball: 2024-25 Season Preview

After a challenging 2023-24 campaign, the Diablo Valley College baseball team is ready to rebound and make strides in the upcoming season. Last year, the Vikings finished with a 9-31 overall record (.225) and a 5-19 record in the competitive Big 8 Conference (.208). While results were tough, several bright spots highlighted the team’s potential and provided a foundation for the new season.

2023-24 Season Highlights

Thrilling Victories: The Vikings delivered standout performances, including a 7-6 win over Solano and a narrow 5-4 win over American River. These victories showcased the team’s ability to compete in close games.
Strong Finish Against Santa Rosa: DVC displayed resilience by securing back-to-back wins against Santa Rosa (5-2 and 4-3), proving their potential to challenge top conference opponents.
Offensive Firepower: The Vikings had high-scoring games such as their 16-11 win over American River and an 18-1 blowout victory against De Anza, reflecting the team’s offensive capabilities when clicking.

2024-25 Season Outlook

Under the continued leadership of Head Coach Dennis Luquet and the addition of fresh talent, the Vikings are looking to improve their competitiveness in the Big 8 Conference. This year’s roster features a mix of experienced returners and promising newcomers eager to make an impact.

Returning Players to Watch:

Marcus McClenon (OF, So.): After a solid freshman season, McClenon's speed and defense will be crucial in the outfield.
Joey Rusca (1B/So.): Power hitting 1B, looks to build on a solid freshman season.
Elijah Scott (SS/So.): Great hands/feet at SS, one of the best infielders in the Big 8.
Hudson Pergamit (P, So.): Pergamit, a 6’1” right-hander, will look to anchor the pitching staff after a year of development.
