Adam Wood throws for 288 yards and 4 scores en route to a Vikings victory.
HAYWARD -- Adam Wood threw for 288 yards with four touchdowns and the Diablo Valley College football team scored 25 unanswered points in the second and third quarters to help earn a 38-21 win over host Chabot on Saturday.
Wood hit Leondre Washington for scoring strikes of 34, 28 and 6 yards as the Vikings took a 21-14 lead late in the first half. Washington also had a huge game, hauling in seven catches for 145 yards as Diablo Valley finished with 528 yards on offense.
The Vikings (2-0) then scored 17 points in the third and were never threatened the rest of the night. Javis Blalock scored from a yard out before Wood and Marcus Armstrong-Brown connected on an 8-yard touchdown with 48 seconds left in the quarter to give DVC a 38-14 advantage. Blalock rushed for a game-high 164 yards on just 10 attempts.
The Gladiators (0-2) rallied back from an early 13-0 deficit in the first have as quarterback Tahir Mills reached the end zone on a 79-yard keeper and Armoni Washington scored on a 36-yard run off a reverse on Chabot's next drive to take a 14-13 lead with 4:46 left in the half. Mills led the Gladiators with 121 yards on 15 carries, but was just 2 of 8 passing for 12 yards.
