DVC BASKETBALL REPORT
Kyla Miller had a career game with 20 rebounds and 12 points in the Diablo Valley women’s basketball team’s 60-58 win over upset-minded Sacramento City Tuesday night in the Big 8.
The Vikings, who played without floor general Safiyyah Yasin, rallied from an eight-point deficit with a 20-10 fourth-quarter run.
On Friday, the Vikings lost a tough contest to Northern California No. 1 Sierra 78-75, playing without Yasin in the second half after she scored 18 points in the first half. A DVC win would have given it a two-game lead in the conference. Instead, DVC (17-4, 4-1) and Sierra (17-2, 4-1) are tied for first.
DVC expects another tough battle against visiting Cosumnes River at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“Cosumnes River will be hungry for a win,” said DVC coach Ramaundo Vaughn via text message. “As always, winning games in the Big 8 is no cakewalk, and we expect a tough one.”
Men's basketball
The Vikings' big rally fell short in a 70-68 loss to host Sacramento City Tuesday night.
After trailing by 20 in the first half, the Vikings (14-6, 2-3) fought back gallantly and had a chance to tie it late, but missed.
The good news for DVC is first-place Santa Rosa (13-6, 4-1) lost to host Delta on Tuesday, which means the Vikings are just two games out of first place in the evenly balanced Big 8..
Dogged by slow starts, the Vikings have a knack for fighting back. They beat second-place American River 70-69, lost to Santa Rosa just 72-68 in Santa Rosa, and rallied from 28-13 down at halftime against Sierra to prevail 58-50.
The Vikings will host Cosumnes River (11-9, 2-3) Friday at 5:30 p.m.
