VIKINGS SIZZLE IN TRACK REGIONAL
DVC's Strangenae Campbell zoomed to the top qualifying times in the women's 100 and 200 meters in Friday's CCCAA Track and Field Northern Regional Trials at Chabot College.
Campbell had impressive marks of 10.63 and 24.01 seconds.
Brandy Williams was the top qualifier in the women's shot put with a mark of 45 feet, 1.50 inches
The top nine qualifiers in the preliminaries advanced to the May 14 Northern Regional Finals at Chabot, from which the top six finishers will earn spots in the CCCAA State Championship May 20-21 in San Diego.
The DVC women won its heat in the 4x400 relay (4:03.02), and the Vikings qualified fifth overall in the women's 4x100 relay (49.80).
Freshman Tia Harper was the No. 4 overall qualifier in the 400 in 58.28.
On the men's side, DVC had the top qualifying mark in the 4x400 relay of 3:17.28.
Geoffrey Weseman also qualified in the men's 800 (1:56.14). Gerardo Castro of City College of San Francisco, the state men’s 800 leader (1:50.19), was the top 800 qualifier in 1:53.46.
In the men's 4x100 relay, DVC was fourth overall and second in its heat (41.58). Francisco Hurtado earned the eighth spot in the 400 hurdles (57.45).
Isaiah Mobley was No. 5 overall in the men's 400 (48.66).
