Bio

Joey is entering his third season with DVC. He joined the staff in 2019 as Pitching Coach.  Vreonis has 25 years of coaching experience at junior college, High school and international levels.

Prior to DVC, Vreonis was the Head Coach at Liberty High School. Vreonis coached the Lions Baseball team from 2014-2019 leading the Lions to 6 straight NCS playoff appearances. The Lions also won their 1st league title in 2014 under Coach Vreonis tutelage. He was also successful at moving over 25 Lion players on to D1, D2, NAIA, and many junior colleges.

Vreonis was also the Head Coach at Pittsburg High School from 2007-2010. Vreonis was successful at Pittsburg from taking a 9-15 team to and improvement of 13-11 in just a year. Vreonis was able to help several Pirate players on the junior college level.

Vreonis has also served as Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Los Medanos College from 2004-2006. Vreonis helped build a team that won 28 games in 2006. Vreonis assisted current DVC hitting Coach Tony Dress.

Vreonis started his in 1997 at Freedom High school in its inaugural varsity season. Vreonis coached at Freedom for seven years as many different roles. In 2000, Vreonis got the opportunity to be the Head Coach of the Falcons posting a 9-15 record in the freedoms 1st season in the BVAL.

Vreonis has also been part of the Greek National Team for many years in many different roles. First recruited as a Pitcher for the National Team. He is a 7 time national team player. He has also served as Pitching Coach for many European Championships and the World Cup in Panama in 2011. He also managed the Greek National Team in the B Pool Championships 2018 leading the Greeks to a win over Team Israel.

Vreonis played parts of 4 season for several Minor League Independent Teams.

Vreonis Played two season at Division II CSU Hayward from 1993-94. He was production Pitcher for the Pioneers leading the team in appearances and ERA.

Prior to CSU Hayward, Vreonis competed two seasons at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg Ca. As a freshman he led the pitching staff with a 1.88 ERA.

Vreonis prepped at Liberty High School in Brentwood. He was an All-League 3Rd Baseman for the Lions. He was also a three sports athlete lettering on Baseball, Soccer, and Basketball.

Vreonis resides in Oakley with his wife Libby and their three sons, Nicholas, Gus, and Alex.

Vreonis earned his Master’s In Sports Science from the United States Sports Academy in 2012.

Vreonis earned his B.S. in Kinesiology from CSU East Bay in 2005
