Bio

Ervin Anderson is entering his 3rd season as the Men's Basketball coach at Diablo Valley College. 

Ervin Anderson is a life-long learner and educator. He has been able to display his abilities to learn during his professional career as a teacher and coach. He has taught and tutored students in all aspects of life for over 24 years. Anderson says he has learned, “Being able to give back to young people is my life mission. The educated athlete can transcend their circumstances and finally, that there are always circumstances.” Anderson also stated, “I am so thankful for the Junior College route it made me what I am today.”

Anderson has coached and taught basketball for 15 years. He started a high school program for students where he worked, the students didn’t have any physical education program as a charter. He coached high school basketball 5 years, worked camps 10 years, coached Middle school for 2 years, AAU program coach for 3 years, Coached Semi-pro basketball for 3 years and have 4 years coaching experience at DVC as the Assistant Men’s Basketball coach.  

Anderson said, “I am extremely excited to take over this program and continue the maturation of young women.” He takes pride in putting out a good product on the court and in the classroom.  He believes a student athlete is one poised to do great things, as they understand how to be part of a team and work towards a common goal.

Ervin Anderson is originally from the Washington DC area and he received his AA in Mathematics from Cecil Community College in North East Maryland. Anderson went on to play basketball at mid-major powerhouse, Saint Mary’s College of California where he received the leadership award as well as his BS in Mathematics. After college, Anderson began studying to teach and played semi-professional basketball in the IBL and ABA for a few years. He then went back home to DC and coached and played semi-pro basketball there.  He is now a husband and father of two, Amber (3) and Keaton (1). 

Coaching Experience:

•          2 years with MIT summer basketball program - Team camps

•          1 year as co-coach at Mt. Diablo High School

•          2 years as head coach at Emery Middle

•          3 years head/assistant Coach for the AAU team Washington Bison

•          3 years as a semi-pro assistant coach - Washington Madness

•          3 years coaching at Clayton Valley Charter School

•          4 years as an assistant coach at Diablo Valley College

•          10 years of coaching basketball camps
