The road to Livermore goes thru San Francisco

DVC's outstanding women's basketball team, which scored more than 100 hundred points in its last game, will be heading to City College of San Francisco in the Sweet 16 of the CCCAA state playoffs.

The winner of Saturday's 5:30 p.m. game will advance to the eight-team State Finals at Los Positas on March 10-12. 

DVC (25-6) is seeded No. 6 and CCSF (26-3) is seeded third.

Guided by coach Ramaundo Vaughn, the Vikings broke the century mark for the fourth time this season with an exciting 109-87 win over visiting Mission in the second round.
Overall, the Big 8 has been strong in the playoffs; four of its teams have advanced to the Sweet 16, also including No. 1 Sierra, No. 5 San Joaquin Delta and No. 10 American River.
The Vikings' brilliant backcourt of Safiyyah Yasin (36 points) and Doris Jones (29 points) was dominant against Mission, and the explosive Vikings scored 63 points in the first half alone.
CCSF, the Coast Conference-North champion, beat No. 14 Laney 73-53 in the second round. Destiny Kelly and Gabrielle Vigil had 18 points apiece for the Rams, who have won 14 in a row since falling to DVC 97-86 on Dec. 28.
"Should be a very high-scoring affair and a great game to watch," DVC Vaughn said matching up against the Rams.
DVC had great efforts all around against Mission. Sami Oliver contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, and CC Cuneo added 11 points and six rebounds. Deja Johnson had nine points and nine boards, and Kyla Miller had nine points and eight boards.
