DVC gets the 4th seed
DVC GETS FOURTH SEED
The DVC women's basketball team has received the No. 4 seed for the Northern regional playoffs, and will host No. 13 Contra Costa on Friday night in the second round.
The Vikings (20-9, 9-5 Big 8) finished in a tie with Sacramento City and Santa Rosa for third place after sweeping Cosumnes River and Modesto last week.
"It's a tremendous accomplishment to achieve a No. 4 seed with all that we've been through this season," DVC coach Ramaundo Vaughn said. "The young ladies have not only had to fight a tremendous battle, but they had to integrate three completely new players and still try to make for a successful season."
The Vikings' Jojuan Carrington and Brandy Williams were selected to the Big 8 all-conference team, and Carrington was named first-team All-State. Carrington, a freshman out of Dublin High, averaged 16.1 points 9.8 rebounds a game. Williams, a freshman from Deer Valley, averaged 12.3 points and 10.1 rebounds a game.
"Jojuan and Brandy both deserved it," Vaughn said. "They were instrumental and, in my opinion, were the two best post players in our conference and two of the best in the state. Jojuan making first-team All-State is a testament to her hard work. We are extremely excited about her future and the future of our program."
