TRACK SHOWS DEPTH, POWER IN NORCALS; STRONG SOFTBALL SEASON ENDS
DVC standout Strangenae Campbell, the reigning state sprint champion, cruised to victory in the women’s 100 meters and took second in the 200 at the CCCAA NorCal Track and Field Finals at De Anza in Cupertino.
On the men’s side, Antwuin Prowes was an impressive winner in the 800 in a time of 1:54.94. Geoffrey Weseman was fifth behind two Chabot runners in 1:56.19.
In the throws, Corey Gilbert earned big points by finishing second in the shot put and discus. His marks were 16.02 meters (shot) and 51.03m (discus).
The DVC women's team placed fourth with 73 points and the men finished fifth with 58. Sequoias won the men’s and women’s NorCal team titles by wide margins.
The CCCAA State Championships are May 19-20 at American River in Sacramento.
Cambell’s 100 time of 11.53 seconds was nearly a half-second quicker than runner-up Kayla Dickerson of Laney (12.02). Campbell, who ran 23.50 in the 200, was just behind the winner Meleni Rodney of Sequoias (23.25).

In the women’s 1,500, DVC freshman Christine Bayliss broke up a Sequoias armada by finishing fourth in 4:50.61. Sequoias had the top three placers and the fifth placer in the event. Bayliss was also third in the 10,000 (39:57.39).
DVC’s Laura Becerra was a strong second in the 3000 steeplechase (11:59.79) and Angelina DazaSanchez was fifth (12:34.64). DVC was third in both the women’s 4x100 relay (48.67) and women’s 4x400 relay (3:55.56).
Nigel Burnett was fourth in the men’s 100 (10.65) and seventh in the 200 (21.96). Freshman Jalen Evers-Threatt was fifth in the 400 (49.75). The DVC men showed depth and talent in the sprints. The Vikings took second behind Sequoias in both the 4x100 relay (41.32) and 4x400 relay (3:13.97).
Zealoun Edwards stepped up with a fourth in the triple jump (13.93m). Jack Pickard was a team field standout, taking second in the javelin (52.52m).

The eighth-seeded Vikings (24-17) completed another fine season with back-to-back losses in the CCCAA Northern Super Regional at San Joaquin Delta on Friday and Saturday.
DVC, which finished fifth in the Big 8, fell dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Big 8 champion Delta 2-1 on Friday. Catcher Terri Taylor was 2 for 2. Shortstop Katie Kaprive (2 for 3), the No. 8 hitter in the lineup, had an RBI double in the top of the second to give the Vikings a stunning 1-0 lead, but No. 2 seed Delta tied it in the fourth and went ahead in the fifth.
Sita Manoa (15-11) was the tough-luck loser, allowing just five hits and two earned runs, striking out one and walking one.
Taylor finished the season with an impressive .511 batting average to rank No. 8 in the state.
The Vikings fell into the losers bracket and lost to No. 7 Ohlone 7-1 on Saturday. The Renegades then beat No. 3 Cosumnes River 1-0 and Delta 4-1, before falling to Delta 6-2 in the Super Regional final.
