Leffle Breaks School Steals Record

PORTLAND – Northwest put up a fight against WPU today but fell in both games losing 7-5 in each.

The Eagles had a total of 23 hits throughout the two games.

"These were tough losses," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We had 43 hits this weekend and couldn't get the wins. Warner Pacific made some huge plays."

Despite the setbacks, the Eagles had a new entry in the school record book with Madisyn Leffle setting the single-season stolen base record.

Leffle led the day with six stolen bases to break the school record. She currently holds 28 stolen bases to her name.

"Maddie gives us a chance to score every time she comes up. I'm super glad she's here with us. Great player and a great young lady," said Fink.

Leffle tied and broke the record in the same inning in the second game, swiping second and third.

Northwest took the 2-0 lead in the first, with Leffle hitting a single to left field and later being brought home by Kayla Stanley's single to center field. Stanley was brought across the plate by Nicola Fish's double to center field.

The Eagles drove in an additional run in the second inning after Ashley Carter doubled to left field and scored from Leffle's single to left field.

WPU tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning but pushed to gain three more in the fifth to put them at a 6-3 lead. Their final run was scored in the sixth inning.

Northwest pushed across two runs for the final margin in the seventh inning. Abby Blahut started the rally by hitting a double to left-center. Sam Parisio, who pinch ran for Blahut, scored on Leffle's single to centerfield. Leffle was later brought across the plate after Stanley hit a double to left field.

WPU made a huge catch to rob Fish's of a home run that would have tied the game, falling over the center-field fence.

Bella King picked up the loss in the circle while adding two strikeouts to her pitching career.

Leffle and Stanley both led the offense for NU, each having three hits of their four at-bats.

WPU 7, NU 5

Warner Pacific packed on three runs in the first inning to put them at a 3-0 lead.
Northwest quickly answered back in the second inning after Cedella Ritchie hit a single to second base. Parisio, who pinch ran for Ritchie, was able to advance after Livi Lindsey singled to the catcher. Both Lindsey and Parisio scored on Jordan Dippel's double down the left-field line to put them at a 3-2 score.

Warner Pacific battled back by pushing through three more runs in the bottom of the second, retaking the lead 6-2. Their final run was scored in the fifth inning.

The Eagles steadily battled back by scoring one run in the fourth after Parisio singled to center field. She was brought home after Dippel's hit to left-center.

Alyssa Maldonado singled down the left in the fifth inning and scored
on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Brown. The final run in the sixth was scored by Leffle after Emily Barry's single to center field.
