Super Regionals
The DVC softball team is set for an all-Big 8 battle in the CCCAA Northern Super Regional Friday afternoon.
The never-say-die Vikings, seeded eighth, will face conference champion and No. 2 seed San Joquin Delta at 2 p.m. in Stockton.
DVC is coming off a thrilling 2-1 series win over visiting No. 9 Hartnell, a familiar scenario for DVC under head coach Dennis Luquet. His teams also won their opening series the previous two seasons.
Catcher Terri Taylor is having a sensational season for DVC with a .504 batting average to rank ninth in the state, to go with 44 RBI and 17 doubles (tied for eighth in the state). Delta's Kaylee Buhrkuhl has 50 RBI and 10 home runs (tied for 12th in the state). Delta's Peyton Rose (31-3, 24 complete games) leads the state in pitching wins with 31.
Delta (36-5, 21-3) beat the Vikings three times in Big 8 play by a combined 33-8.
Against Hartnell, DVC emerged with two thrilling wins, 4-3 and 7-6, sandwiched around a 14-4 defeat.
Friday's DVC-Deta winner will meet either Cosumnes River or Ohlone in Saturday's Super Regional semifinal, and the losing team will fall into the losers' bracket.
