DVC AROUND THE HORN
VIKINGS SWIMMERS TRAVEL WELL
The DVC men's and women's swimming teams flexed some muscle against the state's elite this past week.
Logan Killion led the Vikings men's team to an impressive second-place finish in the 25-school Pasadena Invitational. Killion was third and Jeremy Peris fourth in the men's 200-yard free style in times of 1:46.06 and 1:46.54, respectively. The Vikings men's 200 medley relay was third.
Bang Kai Chao had an excellent meet with a close second in the men's 200 IM (1:55.06) and a first in the 100 breast (57.26). Killion was also fifth in the 500 free.
On the women's side, DVC's Bridget Struck dominated the 100 butterfly race, winning in 1:00.77.
DVC was a very close second in the 200-medley relay (1:42.52). Standout Jamie Wanket was second in the 50 free (25.16) and first in the 100 breast (1:09.80). Mirelle Augst and Julia Mes were third and fourth in the 200 back. DVC was also second in the women's 800 free relay.

SOFTBALL
The Vikings, in fourth place in the Big 8, are coming off a 1-2 week with a 9-1 win over West Valley sandwiched between losses to Sierra, 4-3, and Ohlone, 8-1.
Freshman catcher Terri Taylor was 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBI against West Valley, a five-inning contest.
Taylor leads the Vikings in a bunch of offensive categories: hits (40), doubles (10), RBI (29), average (.471), on base percentage (.505), and slugging percentage (.706).
First baseman Olivia Soley had two RBI against West Valley, and winning pitcher Sita Manoa had two hits. Marissa Maddox and Elvia Alvarado also had doubles.
The Vikings' doubleheader against Big 8-leading Delta, which was postponed because of wet weather, has been rescheduled for Thursday at DVC. Games are at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
DVC (16-11, 8-9) will travel to Folsom Lake (2-23, 1-14) on Tuesday and to Modesto (8-19, 6-10) for a doubleheader on Saturday.

BASEBALL
The Vikings (10-21, 5-10) are coming off a productive week, taking took two of three from Sierra (16-16, 7-11).
In a 2-1 win on April 4 at Wolverine Field, DVC starter Nate Jenkins allowed five hits and one earned run over 6.0 innings, and Ryan Douglas (3-5) nailed it down with three spotless innings, allowing no runs and striking out one with no walks. Catcher Drew Downing singled in Tyler Toland to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth. Right fielder Jared Bannister was 2 for 2 with two walks.
The good times kept rolling on April 6, as the host Vikings prevailed 3-0 over Sierra. Riley Moore (2-1) was brilliant from the mound, firing a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks. The Vikings backed Moore with one in the third and two in the sixth.
Andres Rodriguez keyed the sixth with a two-run double down the left-field line to score second baseman Frank Panacci and Downing.
DVC next fell 11-5 to Sierra at Wolverine Field despite getting two hits from Toland, Zachary Guardino and Rodriguez. Guardino, who had two RBI, and Toland both doubled.

TENNIS
The Vikings men's and women's teams will face Foothill at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The DVC men placed fourth in the Big 8.

TRACK AND FIELD
The Vikings had a productive week at the Maurice Compton Invitational at Merritt College.
Nigel Burnett ran a personal best of 21.54 seconds in the 200 meters, good for No. 3 in the Big 8. Lionel White ran a personal best of 21.74, good for No. 4 in the Big 8. Mousawer Safi also had a PR of 21.87, sixth best in the Big 8. 

Impressive Antwuin Prowes had a PR of 47.11 in the 400, which is No. 2 in the state. Jack Pickard had a personal best of 47.82 meters in the javelin (No. 5 in Big 8).
On the women's side, Laura Becerra was first in the 3000 steeplechase in 12:16.24, tops in the Big 8. In her long jump debut, Tashayla Gilmer placed fifth at 4.94 meters (No. 5 in Big 8). Seuvahnia Kuka second in the discus at 37.46 meters (No. 4 in Big 8).
