Coach Gomes is entering his sixth season coaching defensive backs at the collegiate level, his first with DVC. Coach Gomes began coaching after his career in the N.F.L. He began his career at three Division I programs, Central Michigan University, Bowling Green State University, and Youngstown State University, before joining the ranks of Junior College football and spending the last two seasons at CCSF. During his two seasons at the junior college level, nine defensive backs received scholarships to four-year programs. Though coach Gomes has coached many talented young men, the most notable player he has had the privilege of coaching and mentoring was the 39th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Sean Murphy-Bunting.
Coach Gomes was a two-year starter at CCSF and the Defensive MVP in the California State Championship, a win the led to being named National Champions in 2007. Coach Gomes then transferred to the University of Nebraska where they led the Nation in Defensive points allowed per game (10.4) his junior season. His senior year, their defense was Top 10 in every major defensive category. Along the way, coach Gomes accrued All Conference honors both seasons and was then drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 2011 NFL Draft. He played in 46 career NFL games, registering 55 tackles, six passes defended and an interception.
A Bay Area native of Oakland, coach Gomes has moved back home, to help young men accomplish their aspirations.
