Marv Mckean
Former star DVC student-athlete in football and baseball, who went on to work 35 years in the Contra Costa Community College District at both LMC and Diablo Valley College. Mckean transfered to San Jose State where he played quarterback before earning his Bachelor’s Degree. Hired at DVC in 1964, Mckean was a longtime Defensive Coordinator for DVC football, Head football coach at Los Medanos College, Athletic Director at DVC and a very successful Head Tennis coach at DVC.
Gene ‘Butch’ Rounsaville
DVC male athlete of the year in 1964. 1st team All Golden Gate Conference in football (Quarterback) and baseball (pitcher). Starter for DVC basketball team. DVC starting pitcher in both 1963-64 and still owns the 6th best E.R.A. for a single season (1.84). Signed with the Phillies in 1965 and still owns all-time Reading Phillies AA record with 6 shutouts and 1.75 E.R.A. in 1968. Pitched in major leagues with Chicago White Sox in 1970.
Sue Lindh
DVC female athlete of the year for 1970-71 school year. Was DVC team MVP in an amazing four sports; Basketball, Volleyball, Softball & Field Hockey. Transfer to San Jose State for Basketball in 1972. Honored in 1994 as 1 of 15 women chosen for All-Century hoop team at SJSU. Played two years of professional softball for the San Jose Sunbirds, compiling a .316 lifetine B.A. Earned Bachelors Degree from University of Phoenix in 1988.
Michael Oberlander, M.D.
Beginning in 1993 was Head Team Physician for DVC Athletics (volunteer) for over 20 years. Also performed countless surgeries on injured student-athletes. A graduate of Chicago Medical School, Oberlander co-founded East Bay Sports Medicine Corporation in 1997. Served as team physician for the San Jose Earthquakes (MLS), San Francisco Demons (XFL), and several local High School’s. Known affectionately on campus daily simply as “Dr. OB”.
Stefanie Hanf-Grinstead
Track and Field superstar who helped DVC to consecutive GGC Track team titles in 1992 and 1993. Placed in top 5 at State Track meet in Heptathlon both years. Set all-time DVC record in Triple Jump 39’ 4 1/2” in 1993 along with Heptathlon points. At UC Davis (1993-95) was NCAC Conference Champion in LJ, TJ, and Heptathlon. Earned All-American honors at UCD and set all-time mark in Heptathlon with 4,893 points. Earned Bachelor’s degree at UC Davis
Will Levy
Basketball great at DVC who was a tenacious defender and shot blocker. In 1996-97 was 1st Team All Bay Valley Conference selection on DVC’s only Final 4 squad in school history. In 1997-98 he was 1st Team All BVC along with 1st team All State honors. Played final two seasons at Eastern Washington University. Professional basketball career, Will played in the Mexican Pro League (2000-04), ABA and CBA (2004-07). Earned Bachelor’s Degree at USF in 2007.
Lindsay Azevedo-Cendejas
Great offensive and defensive catcher for DVC Softball program who set school record for Doubles hit. In 1999, 2nd Team All BVC catchera and in 2000 was named Most Valuable Player for Bay Valley Conference (Silver Division). Transfer to Middle Tennessee State University. In 2001, earned 1st Team All Sunbelt Conference honors and caught all 407 innings that team played in the 2001 season. Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from MTSU.
Robbert Hubbard
Record setting running back for DVC football (2002-03). In 2003, rushed for All-Time record 1,518 yards, breaking Pat Riley’s former mark by over 100 yards. Voted on 1st team All Mid-Empire Conference team. Earned scholarship to University of Nevada-Reno where he played his final 2 seasons. Earned Bachelor’s Degree from UNR and later became Head Football Coach at Deer Valley High School.
