Chappie Lisle | Highly respected and successful Asst. Football coach and former Head Coach of Men’s Tennis and Women’s Volley- ball at DVC. Asst. Football Coach (1964-1979), Head Wom- en’s Volleyball Coach (1979-1981), Head Men’s Tennis Coach (1974-1984). Finished career at Los Medanos College. Many offensive linemen that Lisle coached played at major colleges and universities.
Al Lewis | DVC basketball great (1985-1987). Two-time All-GGC selection. Led conference in scoring in 1986-87 with 24.8 PPG. Transferred to Saint Mary’s College (1987-1989), averaging 13 PPG with the Gaels. Helped SMC to 2nd ever NCAA tournament appearance in 1989. 3rd all-time at SMC with 44% 3-PT% and selected to SMC Top 25 All-Time Team. Became Captain Lewis with Blue & Gold Fleet ferries in Bay Area.
Chuck McInnis | All-GGC First Base selection in both 1985 & 1986. Led GGC in hitting (1985) with .420 B.A. Has 4th highest season BA in school history with .417 in 1985. DVC MVP in both ‘85 & ‘86. DVC All-Half Cen- tury Baseball team selection in 2000. Transfer and played final two years (1987-88) at San Diego State University.
Kristen Elms | Greatest goal scorer in DVC Women’s soccer history (2008-09). Single-season scoring record of 21 goals in 2009 and career mark of 28 goals. 1st Team All-Big 8 Confer- ence in 2009. NSCAA Regional All-American in 2009. All- Academic team honors in 2008 and 2009. Earned B.S. degree in Kinesiology from CSU East Bay.
Paul Gambs | Only ‘closer’ in school baseball history to be named 1st Team All-GGC and 1st Team All-State (1989). Holds single- season Saves record (13) in 1989 and career mark (20) (1988-1989). Single-season appearances record (32) in 1989 helping DVC to a Golden Gate Conference title. Broke single-season Saves record at UC-Riverside in 1990. Named to DVC All-Half Century team in 2000.
Kim Bierwith | Undisputed greatest female swimmer in DVC history. Big 8 Conference and State Swimmer of the Year in both 2008 and 2009. Earned academic All-American honors in both 2008-09. Set numerous school, confer- ence, state and national records. Earned A.A. degree at DVC (2009), awarded scholarship and earned B.S. degree (2011) at San Diego State University. Helped SDSU to two Mountain West Conference titles and con- ference record holder in the 50Y Freestyle. Police academy graduate who works in Sheriff’s dept. for Contra Costa County.
Jennifer Kawakami | Great two sport student-athlete in Volleyball and Women’s Basketball (2008-2010). Twice voted 1st Team All-Big 8 Conference in Volley- ball and led Vikings into 2nd round of state playoffs in 2009. DVC career 483 Kills and 669 Digs. Basketball superstar who averaged a double-double in 2009-2010 with 16 PPG and 10 REBs. Also averaged 5 assists and 3 steals per game. Led team again to postsea- son berth in 2010. Exhibited great leadership skills while playing both sports.
Ann Burris-Schultz | Track & Field / Cross Country star at DVC (1990-1992). Fall 1991 2nd at GGC XC championships and 7th at State meet. Spring 1992 GGC champ in both 3000 & 5000 meters. 1992 Nor-Cal champ in 5000M, setting all-time school record. Helped DVC to GGC team title. Transfer to Fresno State, NCAA qualifier in 10,000M and 5,000M (1995). Calif/ Nevada 5,000 meter champion in1995. Earned A.A. degree from DVC, B.S. from Fresno State, and M.A. from Saint Mary’s.
Lauren McCullough | Inspirational, courageous, gracious, and talented athlete who earned All- American status in 50Y Backstroke in 2013. Died of cancer February 2nd, 2014, at the age of 21. Spent her final months tirelessly educating others about childhood cancer awareness and having a positive outlook on life. Author of The Not-Dying Girl blog (www.thenotdyinggirl.com).
