Hugh Boschetti | 1 st DVC Athletic Director (1950-1978); 1st Baseball Coach [1951-1967; COA Hall of Fame Inductee (1991)]. Former Golden Gate Conference Commissioner; 1st Football and Basketball Coach at DVC… he was the “Bos”.
Karl Drexel | Former DVC President (1956-1965) and District Chancellor (1965-1974). Visionary in starting sports and building facilities in the CCCCD.
Bob Ericson | Longtime DVC wrestling coach; 1970 team won state title; 1st community college coach to be president of N.W.C.A. Inducted into Sacramento State Hall of Fame. Career record at DVC: 234-45-1.
Steve Heaston | All-Golden Gate Conference and All-American in Water Polo (1966-67). Member of the 1972 Olympic Team and Head Water Polo Coach at UC Berkeley, where his teams won three NCAA Championships.
Willie McGee | Led DVC in Home Runs in 1977 as an outfielder on the State Championship team. 18 years of Major League service, included NL MVP (1985) and 2-time NL Batting Champion (1985, 1989) with the St. Louis Cardinals; 2,254 hits in MLB career. Selected to DVC’s All-Half Century Baseball Team.
Altie Taylor | Halfback for DVC Football team in 1965. Led the Detroit Lions in rushing (1972-74). During NFL career, gained over 4,000 rushing yards and 1,500 receiving yards. Transferred from DVC to Utah State. 2nd round pick by the Detroit Lions in 1969.
Ed Miller | DVC Track Star in the High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump (1972-73). Set school record of 7’0” in the High Jump in 1972. 1976 NCAA Decathlon Champion at UC Berkeley.
Timothy White | All-Golden Gate Conference and All-American in both Swimming and Water Polo (1966-67). All-American in both sports at Fresno State. Chancellor of the California State University System.
1970 STATE CHAMPION WRESTLING TEAM | Coached by Bob Ericson, had several All-Americans including unlimited weight champ Tim Kopitar First team ever at DVC to win a State Title.
1973 STATE CHAMPION MEN'S SWIM TEAM | Coached by Jack Flap.agan, team has an amazing nine All-American swimmers! First ever Men's Swim State Title at DVC.
1977 STATE CHAMPION BASEBALL TEAM | Team lost 1st game of the season 13-1 and started the season with a 2-6 record. Beat San Mateo 2-1 to win Nor-Cal title then beat Cerritos 2 games to 1 to win state title. In championship game scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to win 11-10. Jim Flores hit a Grand Slam with 2 outs to put the Vikings ahead for good.
1978 STATE CHAMPION WOMEN'S SWIM TEAM | 1978 was the first year that California Community College's offered a Women's Swimming State Championship event. Coached by Jack Flanagan.
